MP4, WebM and MOV (H.264) work with the standard engine. MKV and AVI need the advanced engine below.
Two engines
The standard engine uses your browser’s own video support, so there is nothing to download. It works on files your browser can already play (MP4, WebM, most MOV). Video to WebM or MP4 runs in real time — a one-minute clip takes about a minute — because the browser re-records it as it plays; the picture is re-encoded, so a little quality is lost. GIFs and WAV audio are built directly and are quicker. MP4 output depends on your browser (Chrome, Edge and Safari support it; Firefox usually does not — choose WebM there).
The advanced engine is FFmpeg running inside the page. It reads almost any format (MKV, AVI, FLV) and can make MP3, but it downloads about 30 MB first and runs on one thread, so it suits short clips. It is marked experimental because it depends on files fetched from a public CDN. Nothing you convert is ever uploaded. This tool converts files you already have; it cannot fetch videos from websites.
About the Video Converter
The Video Converter converts a video to WebM, MP4, an animated GIF or WAV audio, and can trim and resize it. Everything happens on your device, so the video is not uploaded. It is useful for shrinking a clip, extracting audio, making a GIF or preparing a video for sharing.
The tool offers two engines: a fast one that uses your browser's own video encoder, and a more capable one that loads FFmpeg for extra formats. Which formats are available depends on your browser; MP4 is offered only when your browser can encode H.264. Converting video is demanding, so long or high-resolution files can take a while and use a lot of memory. Choose a smaller size and a lower quality for faster, smaller results.
How to use it

Tips and good to know
- Trim to the part you need before converting.
